Results and Conclusions
Firstly, a big thank you to all those who took part in our tournament. It takes time, money and commitment to attend, and we really appreciate your support. We hope that you enjoyed the day. We would also like to thank those who provided invaluable assitance on the day. Special mention to the Drogheda Gamers (especially Declan) for providing some scenery and mats; to all those who helped us get organised and clear the room (Owen, Mal, Gary, Jonny to name a few); to the BattleCry duo of Mal and Woody who loaned us a huge amount of terrain and gave invaluable advice.
Secondly, I'm delighted to say that over the course of the day only a handful of decisions were referred to the referee and these were genuine rules queries. There was no issue of bad play, unsportsmanship or difficulties that the organisers were made aware of. This is a credit to the players who took part who all played in the spirit of the game. In fact, the sporting play of two players were brought to our attention during the day - well done to Owen Conlan and Alan Woods-Carroll for special sporting play. Thank you all for making our job so easy.
Thirdly, we'd like to thank the clubs who have supported us. The Drogheda Gamers, the Northern Wasters and the Underground Gamers all allowed us to promote this tournament on their websites/forums/mailing lists and organised themselves with respect to transport and accommodation. Well done to all involved.
Finally, the results. Each player could earn between 0-20 Battle Points per game, and a further 10 points for painting. In any event, there was no doubt regarding the overall winner - Alan Heffernan from the Underground Gamers who managed three spectacular results. Congratulations to Alan for three big wins. Overall second place is awarded to Jonny Fisher from the Northern Wasters who won three games comfortably, and third place is awarded to Ciaran Dunne who matched Jonny's score. Ciaran was also awarded the Best General prize for winning the most battle points and nudging ahead of Jonny on Victory Points scored.
Further prizes were awarded to Dave Leahy of the Underground Gamers for being the most vicious opponent - Dave scored a staggering 6,357 Victory Points and was only beaten in this by Alan; to Declan O'Reilly for being the nicest opponent. The painting awards went to Ugo Greevy (Underground Gamers) for his Bretonnians, to Patrick O'Sullivan (North Wexford Gamers) for his Empire and to Gareth Lombard (Underground Gamers) for his Lizardmen. Unfortunately, an error on the day led to Gareth not getting his name called out but we will rectify that very soon. Apologies to Gareth (and his army) for this mistake. Finally, the team award was given to the Underground Gamers who had six players in the top ten, making them the team to beat in future.
Over the course of the day, we had four official clubs involved - the North Wexford Gamers, the Underground Gamers, the Drogheda Gamers and the Northern Wasters. We had 32 players involved using 12 different armies: a wonderful reflection on the Warhammer scene in Ireland.
Thank you all again, from the NWG.
